Mayfield to Highlight Public Safety, ‘Kitchen Table’ Issues Through Committee Work

WAUKEGAN, Ill. – State Rep. Rita Mayfield, D-Waukegan, will continue to be a champion for improved public safety measures as well as taking the lead on ‘kitchen table’ issues like education, insurance, energy, and utilities; after being named to join or lead several influential House committees.

“Everyday Illinois families need an advocate in Springfield, and I’ve spent my career in public service aiming to be that advocate,” Mayfield said. “These committee assignments give me an opportunity to keep doing that—and to keep pushing for more and better public policy solutions to move Illinois forward. I intend to make the most of it.”

Mayfield will continue to act as Chairperson of the crucial Appropriations-Public Safety Committee, which is responsible for ensuring that public safety measures are appropriately funded. She will also remain a member of the Consumer Protection Committee, Elementary & Secondary Education: School Curriculum & Policies Committee, Energy & Environment Committee and the Insurance Committee. Finally, Mayfield has been newly appointed to the Health & Human Services Committee, the Cybersecurity, Data Analytics & IT Committee and the Public Utilities Committee.

“Confronting the issues that impact Illinois families and communities is a big job,” Mayfield said. “But today, I’m reaffirming my commitment to being among those who step up to take on that challenge. Strong, safe communities are the building blocks of a prosperous economy and a just society. I aim to foster an environment where communities can come together to help both individuals and groups achieve their goals; and I’m excited to get to work.”
