Lake County Honor Flight hosts Welcome Home Ceremony for WWII and Korean War Veterans!

NORTH CHICAGO, IL (October 02, 2015) - On Sunday, October 11, 2015, six WWII and seventeen Korean War Veterans are coming home from their Lake County Honor Flight trip to Washington D.C. The heroes will be welcomed to much fanfare and celebration by a crowd of family, friends and loved ones at the North Chicago Veterans Memorial. The Welcome Home Ceremony is open to the public and local residents are encouraged to attend.

Laura Hillenbrand's best-selling book "Unbroken" follows the life of 1936 Olympian Louis Zamperini, WWII MIA/POW survivor. It's a tale of survival, suffering, salvation and forgiveness. Byron Kinney-a B-29 pilot who flew a POW rescue mission at the end of WWII to reach Zamperini's camp in Japan and successfully parachuted life-saving food and supplies. Mr. Kinney will be one of the many coming home from trip #5.

"A half dozen friends of mine have already been on an Honor Flight and return with high compliments on their experience," said Byron Kinney. "Every detail is taken care of to honor each veteran and make their trip a highly memorable event. Seeing the great memorials built by a grateful nation to honor the military service and sacrifice of millions is a huge honor."

In addition, State Representative Rita Mayfield will be joining the LCHF crew in October.

"I am thrilled to join Lake County Honor Flight on trip #5 as a guardian. I'm sure this trip will have a great impact on me," said State Representative Rita Mayfield (District 60). "Our nation's heroes are the very reason this country represents freedom across the globe. Traveling with our heroes is an honor, and witnessing their smiles will forever resonate in my heart."

Attendees are encouraged to make posters, bring American Flags and dress in red, white and blue.
