SPRINGFIELD - State Rep. Rita Mayfield (D-Waukegan) released the following statement regarding the Governorís Budget Address on Wednesday:

"The governor's budget address focused on many of the challenges that lie ahead as we begin to draft a fiscally responsible budget. There are several pressing issues that require immediate action, and we mustbegin to make those hard decisions with the best interest of the residents of this state in mind."

"Simply cutting expenses will not help us reach a balanced budget. While it is important to reduce unnecessary spending, we must also make sure to preserve those vital services that our communities need. Yet, these extreme cuts will drastically affect many of those services and will place the burden on our hard working and middle-class families."

"As a member of the Appropriations Ė Human Services Committee and the Appropriations - Public Safety Committee, I look forward to playing an active role in the budgeting process with members on both sides of the aisle. During that time I will continue to ask for any and all input from the residents of my district in order to develop a balanced budget that addresses their needs and concerns."
